Students and staff were celebrating at Holmleigh Park High School after the strongest A Level results in the school’s 50 year history. With 23% of A level grades at A*-A, and 62% of grades at A*-B, the school’s average grade was a B.

This means that the percentage of students achieving A*, A and B grades is a staggering four times higher than in 2019, when the previously named Beaufort Cooperative Academy joined the Greenshaw Learning Trust. As a result, there were happy students collecting results this morning!

Top achiever Marek Kuczynski achieved three A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and will be studying Mathematics at the University of Nottingham. He said: “I’m absolutely delighted, and very excited for next year. I’d like to thank the Sixth Form Team and my teachers for all of their support”. 

Fellow student Will Day achieved an A* in Maths, an A in further Maths, and a B in Physics. He has turned down offers from top universities, instead opting to study a degree level apprenticeship with GE Aviation. “I’ve always wanted to go into aerospace engineering, so getting a degree while also starting with GE seems like the best option. I really appreciate all the help the school has given me in lessons and with applying for this opportunity.” 

Beth Bird, who achieved an A in English, an A in PE, and a C in Chemistry is heading to the University of Exeter, where she will be studying Exercise and Sports Science “I’m absolutely thrilled.” When asked for her advice to other students, Beth added: “Persist and keep working hard, and keep communicating with all of their teachers - it’s been so nice to have that support from them. 

Paige Hopkins was also celebrating, with her A,A,B meaning she will also be going on to the University of Exeter to study English Literature. Paige commented: “My family were all proud - my mum had tears dripping down her face!”

Vocational results were also excellent, with 75% of grades awarded as either Distinction* or Distinction. Redford Elton received a triple Distinction* in Creative iMedia and is going to study Sports Journalism at the world leading University College of Football Business, based at Wembley Stadium! Redford added: “It was a little bit of a shock at first, but it’s been a good day. It’s a lot better than I expected. The teachers pushed me a lot, and always helped me out with ways to revise and get all of my work done.”

Patrick Farmbrough, Headteacher of Holmleigh Park High School, said: “I am absolutely delighted for all of our Year 13 students. They have worked exceptionally hard and endured huge disruption over the past three years, and they fully deserve their success today”. 

Commenting on what the results mean to the school, he added: “I am hugely proud of all of the staff and students at Holmleigh Park. These results are a testament to how much the school has transformed in the last three years, and we couldn’t have done it without the support and hard work of our staff, students, and parents and carers. We’ll be pushing ourselves to continue to improve next year, and I’m very excited for our students' futures!”
