Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 14th June 2024

In this issue: Celebrations of student achievements in art, photography, and athletics, updates on the upcoming schedule, and exciting news about our new attendance strategy.

Dear HP families,

This week has been filled with remarkable achievements and events at HP. On Tuesday afternoon, our A Level Art and Photography students showcased their incredible talent in the Refectory. The exhibition was a testament to their hard work and creativity, and I am immensely proud of their efforts.

We also hosted our annual Holmleigh Park athletics fixture, competing against Churchdown, Severn Vale, and St Peter's. We witnessed standout performances, with Rommar setting a new school record by throwing 30.2 metres, Elasia winning the 200m, and Ella triumphing in the 100m, 200m and 300m races. Congratulations to all our athletes for their dedication and success.

In more athletics news, Barnaby, Ella, and Riley represented HP at the County Schools Athletics competition on Saturday. Barnaby achieved a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 12.01m, securing second place, while Ella equalled her personal best in the 300m, finishing fourth. Well done to all three for their outstanding performances.

Our Year 10 rounders team also excelled, performing superbly in the District tournament with impressive victories against St Peter’s and Severn Vale. Their teamwork and determination were evident throughout the competition.

Please note that significant kitchen servery building work will commence next week, resulting in a limited cold food menu of sandwiches, snacks, and drinks available next Thursday and Friday. The building work is extremely exciting because it will result in vastly improved cooking and queuing spaces. This will make the canteen experience much easier for our students and will mean they are able to get their food quicker than they are able to now. However, we will all need to be patient and understanding over the next few weeks as our catering team are much more restricted in terms of the menu choices that they can offer. I will keep you updated about this over the coming weeks.

Advance warning: On the last day of Activities Week, Friday 12th July, all students will have an earlier finish at 1pm.

Lastly, I am excited to announce that we will be unveiling a new whole school attendance strategy next Friday, aimed at making HP an even more successful environment for our students.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
