Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 15th November 2024

In this issue: Highlights of a memorable Remembrance silence, exciting student achievements, successful parent events, and our focus on attendance.

Dear HP families,

Monday began with the whole HP community coming together to observe a wonderfully respectful Remembrance minute’s silence. The parade by our CCF Cadets made the occasion especially poignant, and I was incredibly proud of their dedication and composure. It was a deeply meaningful start to the week and a reminder of the values we uphold as a school.

Today, we were delighted to welcome Alex McIntyre, the new MP for Gloucester, to HP. During his visit, he engaged with staff and students, offering valuable insights into his role and the workings of Parliament. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see democracy in action and hear firsthand about the responsibilities of public service.

Yesterday evening, a group of our students participated in the English Speaking Union debating competition at Sir Thomas Rich’s. They competed against some of the region’s most prestigious private schools and performed brilliantly. Their confidence, articulation, and teamwork were commendable, and they represented HP with excellence.

On Wednesday, we held our Duke of Edinburgh Parents’ Information Evening, which saw the highest turnout we’ve ever had. Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us to learn more about this fantastic program and how it supports students’ personal development and resilience. Your enthusiasm and support are greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, our students have been busy with academic assessments. Year 13 began their mock exams this week, while Year 11 continued theirs. In addition, Year 8 have started preparing for their upcoming Rank Order Assessments. These are vital opportunities for students to consolidate their learning and develop their exam skills.

Our younger students have also been shining in sports. The Year 7 and 8 basketball team had their first fixture this week, achieving a brilliant victory over Severn Vale. Congratulations to the players and coaches for their hard work and determination.

Thursday saw the District Athletics cross-country event at Plock Court. We are thrilled to announce that Oscar C in Year 7 and Eloise C in Year 10 have both qualified for the County Championships after their outstanding performances. A huge well done to them!

Finally, I’d like to highlight our continued focus on attendance, which remains our number one priority this year. We expect an attendance rate of 95% or higher as a key benchmark for happiness and success in school. Please check your child’s attendance regularly on MCAS and contact their Head of Year if you have any concerns.

Thank you all for your ongoing support. The achievements and progress we’ve seen this week wouldn’t be possible without the collective efforts of our students, families, and staff.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
