Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 6th December 2024

In this issue: Celebrating sporting success, festive events, student achievements, important reminders, and attendance updates.

Dear HP families,

Our students have continued to excel in sport, with another busy week of fixtures. Congratulations to our Sixth Form girls, who secured an impressive 13-2 victory against Churchdown in netball, and well done to our Year 7 girls, who finished 3rd in the District football tournament.

The festive season is in full swing, with many exciting Christmas events on the horizon. Christmas lunches, discos, HP Hero Club rewards, and celebration assemblies are all planned for the coming weeks. Please check the calendar on our website for dates and times, including the 1:05pm finish on the last day of term.

A reminder that this weekend is the last chance to sign up for the Christmas lunches. These lunches will be served during whole-year group Christmas parties and are priced the same as a standard meal, with HP subsidising the additional cost to make it accessible for all. Students who do not sign up will have access to sandwiches and snacks only on those days. The Google Form to sign up is here.

Yesterday, our cadets had a fantastic trip to RAF Cosford, providing them with fascinating insights and hands-on experiences. Mrs Mcrae informs me that their behaviour and conduct was a credit to all of us. Back at HP, our Year 11 Business Studies students have been impressing staff with their assessed presentations—well done to all involved.

I’d like to update parents about the process for forgotten items. If a student forgets something, they can call home from Reception and then collect the item during break or lunch. However, we are unable to pass on individual messages, so it is the student's responsibility to check back at Reception. With over 1,380 students at HP, it’s essential for children to take ownership of this. We will reinforce this with students in next week’s Line Up messages.

Finally, attendance remains our number one priority. We aim for 95% or higher, as this benchmark is closely linked to student happiness and success. HP Hero Club rewards will continue throughout the year to celebrate excellent attendance. Please regularly check your child’s attendance on MCAS and contact their Head of Year with any concerns.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
