Letter from the Head – Friday 24th January 2025
In this issue: Feedback on our Home-School Communication Protocol and Parents Evening timings, becoming a Parent Governor, a successful Year 8 Parents Evening, excellent participation in extracurricular sports, the Eco Club’s community contribution, the next INSET day, and a reminder about attendance.
Dear HP families,
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on our proposed Home-School Communication Protocol and preferred timings for Parents Evenings. Your responses were overwhelmingly positive, and we also received some incredibly useful points for clarification and improvement. We are carefully considering this feedback before launching the final protocol. A decision on future Parents Evening timings will be communicated in due course.
I would also like to invite you to consider becoming a Parent Governor. Please see the emailed letter for details on how to apply. The deadline is Friday 14th February 2025. Being a school governor is a highly rewarding role that supports the work of HP and our Trust. While no specific qualifications are required, we do provide training and support. Governors need to uphold the values of the school and Trust, commit time and effort, and actively participate in Governing Body meetings, which occur six times a year, typically in the early evening. Additional responsibilities may also be taken on as part of this important role.
This week saw a fantastic turnout at our Year 8 Parents Evening. The atmosphere was incredibly positive, with many valuable discussions about our new initiative, goal setting. This initiative follows Rank Order Assessments and helps every student identify their focus for future progress.
Our extracurricular sporting clubs continue to thrive, with excellent participation. We had 45 students attending Year 9 and 10 netball, 45 students at Year 7 football and 48 students at Year 9 football. Congratulations to our netball teams for their two wins against Severn Vale this week.
Well done to our Eco Club for their continued contributions to the local community, including another successful litter pick in Tuffley this week.
A reminder that our next INSET day is on Friday 21st March.
Finally, our weekly attendance update: our top priority this year is achieving a school-wide attendance rate of 95% or higher. Attendance is a key benchmark for happiness and success in school. Our Rank Order Assessments continue to show the undoubted link between regular attendance and improved attainment. Please check your child’s attendance regularly on MCAS and contact their Head of Year if you have any concerns.
I wish you all a lovely weekend,
Mr Hudson
