Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head – Friday 7th February 2025

In this issue: Updates to our Home-School Communication Protocol, Y10 Scholars visit Oxford University, HP Hero badge replacements, talent show finals, Activities Week payments, bike security reminders, and our weekly attendance update.

Dear HP families,

We have updated our Contact Details page following parent consultation to reflect our new Home-School Communication Protocol. Email is now our preferred method of initial contact, and we have set target response times for parents. Meetings must be pre-booked rather than ad hoc, but Parent Liaison Officers are available in Reception. We also expect all communication to be respectful and in good faith. Please take a moment to read the updated page.

On Thursday, 30 of our Y10 Scholars visited the University of Oxford for a firsthand experience of higher education. They explored Lady Margaret Hall College, met Graduates, Tutors, and current students, and took part in academic sessions in History or Engineering led by Lecturers. A highlight was lunch in the grand dining hall, which students described as feeling "like being in Harry Potter." Staff were particularly impressed when students instinctively stood behind their chairs before sitting—an act of natural respect in their guests' surroundings. One Lecturer commented, "Your students are incredible, you must be so proud." Thank you to Mrs Roberts for organising the trip.

HP Hero badges are available to purchase via MCAS if a student has lost theirs. Once bought, they can be collected from Mrs Sharples. Obviously, only students in the HP Hero Club will be able to collect these - please contact Mrs Sharples directly with any questions. Excitingly, there will be our next reward next week for all HP Hero badge holders.

Talent show auditions have taken place this week, with the finals set for next Friday during Period 5. The top 100 house point earners will be invited to watch the performances.

It’s great to see so many parents have already paid deposits for Activities Week in July. Payments opened on 1st February, and the £10 deposit can be made until the end of the month.

A reminder that bikes should always be locked in the bike shed to keep them secure.

Finally, our weekly attendance reminder—this remains our number one priority. We expect attendance of 95% or higher, as this is key to student happiness and success. Please check your child’s attendance regularly on MCAS and contact their Head of Year if you have any concerns.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
