Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head, 22nd November 2019

Dear all,

This week has seen Year 11 complete almost all their mock exams, with just Art and Photography to come next week. They have conducted themselves absolutely brilliantly, and have really given the papers their all. I was delighted to see so many opting to come in early, with close to a hundred students attending their 07:45 Warm Up sessions before English, Maths and Science. This bodes very well for the summer, and I'm confident that once we have the results back, we will see significant progress.

Next up for Year 11 is the Sixth Form Open Evening, on Thursday 28th November from 18:30-20:00. We are planning to offer some exciting new courses at Sixth Form, so I hope to see many of you there.

I was pleased to welcome Roger Mills and Will Smith to the school (the Chair of Trustees and the Chief Executive of Greenshaw Learning Trust). The progress made since they last visited has been huge, and both commented on the happy atmosphere around the site. As always, I encourage you to come and see for yourself; please come in to reception for a tour at any time and we'll be happy to show you around.

Finally, we've had a busy week of extra-curricular activities. We were delighted to welcome over 1,000 primary school children on Friday, competing in the Gloucester cross-country championships. Our Sixth Formers made outstanding stewards, (and even better hares when they were being chased around the fields!). We also welcomed Nigel Ipinson-Fleming (formerly part of the Stone Roses) to work with our Year 7 choir and add some polish ahead of the Greenshaw Carol Concert at Gloucester Cathedral. It was an absolute joy to see the enthusiasm with which they threw themselves into their singing.

Best wishes,

Patrick Farmbrough
