Hegarty Maths Update November 2019
20th November 2019
Dear Parents,
Hegarty Maths Update
Students have now been completing homework on Hegarty Maths for several months and I am delighted to say that Holmleigh Park High School students are in the top 10 schools nationally for the effort spent on homework this year. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting the students in achieving this.
Unfortunately, a small minority of students are repeatedly choosing not to do the homework, or to do it with minimal effort and below our required expectations. We have, therefore, updated the homework detention policy with regard to Maths detentions. Going forward, the initial detention for missing the Friday deadline, which is sat on the Tuesday, will remain the same. However, if they do not complete their homework to the required standard by Wednesday morning at 0730, they will receive a second detention for that night.
Students must speak to their teacher, in person or by e-mail, before the deadline if they are having difficulty accessing the website, or with the homework itself – leaving it all to the last night and then having problems will not be accepted as a valid excuse when students have a week to complete the work.
Students repeatedly failing to meet the required standards will be invited in for a meeting with their maths teacher and parents/ carers.
I have included below, a copy of the maths department homework policy.
December Assessments (Year 7 to 10)
Students will sit end of term assessments in maths during the week commencing 2nd December. Information on what students should revise can be found on the school website, under information, student and the relevant year group. Students should make use of the revision list, alongside learning the content of their knowledge organisers. We are providing them with Knowledge Organiser quizzes this week to help them memorise the key facts contained in the knowledge organisers. The knowledge organisers and revision list both refer to Hegarty clip numbers, which the students can look up to access video tutorials and quizzes too.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs K Barrett
Director of Maths
