KS4 PE Curriculum Change

October 2019

Dear Parent,

We have recently undertaken a curriculum review of the theory options in Key Stage 4 for PE students.

After reflecting on previous years’ results and comparing ourselves to other schools of a similar status, we are considering switching to the Cambridge National Course in Sports Studies. We believe that this will allow students to achieve better grades, and will therefore better prepare them to go on to study courses of their choice at Sixth Form. We also believe that it offers the best balance between practical activities and theory.

Finally, it emphasises coursework over exams, and we feel this will offer a more balanced curriculum. This will not prevent students from accessing A Level PE, either with us or with other Sixth Forms.

In the future, it is likely that we will only offer the Cambridge National course. For current students, we are now consulting with parents before making a final decision. I would therefore appreciate it if you could let me have any feedback, comments or questions by Monday 14th October by emailing me at j.pugh@hphigh.co.uk

I hope you can appreciate that we are considering this change to guarantee that pupils have the best possible chance of success in the future.

I look forward to hearing from you.
