Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 19th July 2024

In this issue: Celebrating an incredible trip to Spain, Duke of Edinburgh expedition, GCSE Photography trip, Year 10 Scholars trip, celebration assemblies, Sports Day, and a fun fair for Hurricane house.

Dear HP families,

As we approach the end of the academic year, I would like to thank you for your support and the contribution that both you and your child have made to Holmleigh Park High School’s community this year. I am pleased to share that we are finishing on a high note with several exceptional events and achievements over the past week.

Before doing so, I want to make you all aware that the Department for Education (DfE) has introduced some significant changes to their guidance ‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’. Whilst the majority of these changes are primarily related to policies and procedures within schools and local authorities, there are several important changes that have the potential to impact on you, as parents and carers. The changes can be in the downloaded file at the end of this letter, entitled 'DfE Changes - Update to Parents'.

On to the brilliance of our final week of 2023/24...

Eighty Year 7 and 8 students had an incredible trip to Spain led by Ms Grinham. The students experienced a wonderful blend of cultural immersion and educational activities, which will undoubtedly enrich their perspectives.

Our students also demonstrated resilience and teamwork during the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition led by Ms Austin. This challenging outdoor adventure saw them develop valuable skills and build lasting memories.

GCSE Photography students had an inspiring trip to Bristol Dockside under the guidance of Mrs Kingston. They gained practical insights that will contribute significantly to their work next year.

Meanwhile, Year 10 Scholars went on a trip to Cardiff focused on science and politics, led by Mrs Roberts. This visit provided them with a deeper understanding of these fields and motivated them to think about their future aspirations.

We held celebration assemblies for every group where school colours’ badges were presented to students who have shown exceptional dedication and achievement throughout the year. It was heartening to see so many students being recognised for their hard work.

Our Sports Day was a great success, blessed with sunny weather and featuring a high standard of track and field competitions. The enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by the students were commendable.

Finally, today’s fun fair for our winning house, Hurricane, was a joyous event. Congratulations to Hurricane for their outstanding performance and team spirit throughout the year.

I am very proud of all of our students and what they have achieved over the past year. We have lots of exciting plans for September onwards to continue making HP the best possible school for our community that it can be. Until then, I wish you all a lovely summer.
