Holmleigh Park High School

Letter from the Head - Friday 21st June 2024

In this issue: Celebrating student achievements in athletics, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and the importance of attendance; advance notice of an early finish on Friday 12th July.

Dear HP families,

This past week has been filled with outstanding accomplishments and memorable experiences for our students, and I am delighted to share some of these highlights with you.

On Wednesday, 82 of our athletes competed in the Gloucester District Schools competition held at the Prince of Wales stadium in Cheltenham. We witnessed standout performances from Promise (Y7) and Davion (Y10) in the 100m, Elasia (Y8) in the Shot Put, Ella in the 200m, and our Y7 4 x 100m relay team consisting of Max, Max, Gio, and Promise. The teamwork and support shown by all our athletes was truly commendable. Congratulations to everyone involved and a big thank you to our PE team for their dedication.

Our Year 9 and 10 students embarked on their first practice Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) expedition in the picturesque countryside surrounding Ross-on-Wye. They demonstrated exceptional campcraft skills, navigated challenging terrain, and showed remarkable determination despite the changeable weather. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to their qualifying expeditions in July and September. Many thanks to Miss Austin, Ms Carter, Miss Himpson, Miss Saltmarsh, and Mr Silverstone-Rogers for their support.

Today, I addressed all Year 7 to 10 students in an assembly focused on the theme "You have to be ‘here’ to get ‘there’." I emphasised the importance of regular attendance, always aiming for at least 95% notwithstanding exceptional circumstances, and reinforced to students that regular attendance allows them to aim for their personal goals, whether academic or extracurricular. I have set them two tasks for the weekend: to check their attendance on the MCAS app and to reflect on their personal goals for the future. Your support in helping them complete these tasks is greatly appreciated.

Please note that on the last day of Activities Week, Friday 12th July, all students will finish earlier at 1pm.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
