Letter from the Head – Friday 7th March

In this issue: A fantastic turnout at the Year 9 Parents and Options Evening, Year 10 Geography fieldwork trips, the Ten Tors expedition, Year 11 Art and Photography exams, success for our Debating Club in a Shakespeare Recital Competition, a reminder about Activities Week sign-ups, our next INSET day, and our weekly attendance update.

Dear HP families,

Last night, we had an excellent turnout for the Year 9 Parents and Options Evening. This is always a pivotal moment in the year as students consider the subjects they wish to focus on in Key Stage 4. It was great to see so many families attending, discussing options with teachers, and supporting students in making informed choices about their futures.

Our Year 10 students have been out and about on their Geography fieldwork trips, putting their classroom learning into practice. I have been told that their engagement and attitudes to learning on the trips were excellent.

Over the previous weekend, a dedicated group of students took part in the Ten Tors practice expedition. This challenging outdoor event tested their endurance, teamwork and determination. A huge well done to all involved for their hard work and perseverance in what was undoubtedly a tough but rewarding experience. Thank you to Mr Hipwell and Mr Silverstone-Rogers for their support of these students.

This week has also seen our Year 11 Art and Photography students sitting their practical exams. Their focus and commitment has been impressive, and we look forward to seeing the fantastic work they have produced.

A special mention to our Debating Club, who competed in a Shakespeare Recital Competition at King’s School. The students showcased incredible resilience and confidence, and I am told they are already looking forward to next year's efforts. Well done to everyone who took part. Thank you to Miss Barry for organising.

Sign-ups for Activities Week trips are still open. We are delighted with the number of payments received so far but want to ensure as many students as possible can take part in these fantastic experiences. If you haven’t yet completed sign-up, please check the follow-up email from Mrs Sharples, which includes helpful 'how to' guides.

A quick reminder that our next INSET day is on Friday 21st March.

Finally, a note on attendance, which remains our number one priority. We expect all students to maintain at least 95% attendance, as this is a key benchmark for happiness and success. Please continue to check your child’s attendance on MCAS and reach out to their Head of Year with any concerns.

I wish you all a lovely weekend,

Mr Hudson
